A NOTE FROM PASTOR ROYDON
I read this story another pastor had written, and it reminded me that we should be listening to the Lord and using those God-given opportunities to minister to people we come into contact with. I trust that we at Mount Isa Baptist will be looking to see where we can be a blessing and encouragement to someone this week. I stopped at McDonalds in Lockhart, Texas on the way back from Victoria, Texas. I ordered my food (not heart healthy). Then the clerk asked if it was "for here, or to go?" In total contradiction to what I normally do I told her it was "for here." When I received my food I sat down on a stool at a small table, asked God's blessing over the food, and begin to eat. A senior adult ordered his food. When he received it he walked my way. He was by himself. There were plenty of other seats and tables, but he said, "Pardon me, but would you mind if I joined you?" I told him I would be happy for him to join me. I introduced myself and he returned the favor. "George, George Mink," he said. He was retired and lived about twelve miles out in the country. I ate, and he talked. He told me he was a retired locomotive mechanic; even worked on steam engine locomotives in his early years. He was born in Kentucky, had a wife and four adult children. "Lost my wife and my daughter last year. We were married 62 years. My daughter was 52 when she died." His sons lived far away and he never saw them. While he was talking my cell phone rang. I had to take the call and apologized. "That's okay, it must be good to get a call sometimes.," he said. That's when I realized that Mr. Mink was a lonely man. Before we parted, I handed him my card. I asked how I could pray for him. He said. " Just pray that I will be faithful to my Lord." It was no accident that God stopped me at that McDonalds. It was no accident that he had me eat my food there, rather than "to go." It was no accident that God had me there to minister to a lonely man. We never know when or how God will choose to use us. There are plenty of lonely people who just need a little time. I want to encourage you to be sensitive and aware of the opportunities to minister to the lonely, lowly, and lost. |

PRAYER MEETINGEach Sunday at 8:45 am before the 9:00 am service The idea is that if you just want to pop in, say a quick prayer, and leave, that’s okay, but if we as a church want to see the Lord moving in our church, if we want growth in our spiritual lives and growth in the church, that is where it needs to start. 2Chronicles 7:14: “If my people who are called by my name humble themselves, and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and heal their land" |
